Closing of Meat Board Office
The Meat Board will close its office for the Christmas season on 24 December 2012 and will open it again on 3 January 2013 at 07:30, in order to give its staff a well-deserved holiday.
Applications for import and export permits for meat and livestock, including sheep exports, should reach the Meat Board not later than 21 December 2012 at 12:00.
The Ear Tag Office will be closed for over-the-counter ear tag sales only on 21 December 2012 at 15:00. |

Meat Board makes Presentation in Ethopia
Mr Gizaw Negussie, Senior Technical Advisor of the Livestock Producers' Forum Northern Communal Areas Producers' Mentorship Programme was invited by the Nairobi, Kenya-based International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)to take part in an international conference on value chains for agricultural transformation. The conference was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and brought together roundabout 400 delegates from African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. At the conference Mr Negussie explained the current high standard of the Namibian Meat Industry to the attendees. Participants showed great interest in the level of development of the Namibian livestock industry and the way in which it is organised and managed. All costs for the attendance of the conference were carried by the International Livestock Research Institute. |

Namibian Carcass Classificaton up to Standard
The authority responsible for maintaining carcass classification standards in South Africa, Samic, established during a routine carcass classification audit at an enterprise in Cape Town, that the specific consignment lamb carcasses from a Namibian abattoir fell within the norm of the South African Production Standards Act of 1990. The Meat Board maintains a very high standard with regard to answering to carcass classification standards at export abattoirs to the advantage of both the abattoir and the producer. |

Meat Board introduces Meat Quality Seal to the Media
On Tuesday 27 November 2012 the Meat Board launched a project to introduce a quality mark, "Seal of Quality", for locally produced meat. The aim of the project is to give consumers the assurance that meat traders who comply with the mark, sell meat that answers to the existing standards regarding hygiene and classification. The meat traders will then be supported by the Meat Board by means of advertisements and promotion material. |

Meat Board decides on Conditions for Registraiton of Abattoirs
At its last board meeting the Meat Board approved a Policy Framework for conditions for the registration of abattoirs. The aim of this Policy Framework is to regulate the registration and the erection of abattoirs in Namibia. It will be made available to all abattoirs that are currently registered with the Meat Board. It is also available from Mr Kellerman of the Meat Board. |
