MEAT BOARD INVITED TO PRESENT AT AGRICULTURAL OUTLOOK CONFERENCE

On 8 October 2019, at the latest Agricultural Outlook Conference, the Meat Board was invited to present an optimal post-drought livestock and meat marketing policy.  Following the devastating drought of 2019, it is imperative that the livestock and meat industry should be given a few years to recuperate without any marketing restrictions. Any restrictions to the marketing channel or value chain renders the export industry less competitive in relation to major export countries like Australia and New Zealand. The Agricultural Gross Domestic Product will vary less and will re-establish its rightful contribution to the National Gross Domestic Product if macro-economic factors like the incorporation of the cattle source north of the veterinary cordon fence within the export value chain, the prevention of interference with the marketing channel, the establishment of additional markets in China and the Middle East and bush encroachment are substantially addressed.
