Print

The Meat Board paid a goodwill visit to the Katima Mulilo State Veterinary Office to observe the progress of the office with the vaccination program against the Foot and Mouth Disease Virus O-variant. The O-variant of the Foot and Mouth Disease virus leads to more prominent symptoms in the animal and spreads much faster. Every possible effort is made by the Directorate Veterinary Services to limit the spread of the virus as soon as possible. All livestock movement, and thus formal marketing, was halted. So far, the virus has been restricted to the eastern area of the Ngoma Katima Mulilo tar road. The Meat Board will try to add additional vaccination teams to complete the vaccination program more quickly, and thus lift movement control, to allow marketing again.
